Staff Spotlight >> Perry Gowdy

We’d like to introduce you to Perry Gowdy, a member of our software development team. Perry joined Lucity last February and has been a great addition to our team.

Perry Gowdy, Software Developer

My job title is… Software Developer

But here’s what I really do… I really do develop software!

I’m making / hoping to make a difference at Lucity by… becoming exceptional at both Mobile and Angular development.

I find my biggest (work-related) challenge to be… task switching. There are simply so many things to learn and know, especially fresh out of college, that sometimes I have a hard time trying to retain all the knowledge. It becomes a bigger problem when I’m flipping between C#, Java, Angular, SQL, etc.

But the greatest (work-related) reward is… seeing how far I’ve come in learning the aforementioned technologies. Going back and looking at code that I wrote even a few months ago is both embarrassing and exciting.

My favorite part of my day is… definitely the morning. I find I’m usually most motivated and productive in the morning. I like most when I can get lost in the code and work for chunks of time uninterrupted. The best time to catch me is between 8:30 and 12.

One reason I love working at Lucity is… the opportunities to explore various parts of software. I was worried about coming out of college and being shoehorned into a position that I didn’t like, writing in a language I didn’t care for, and then being stuck with it. Lucity has been amazing about giving me opportunities to explore the full stack of technology used in large, enterprise scale software and is always encouraging me to learn and hone my skills rather than just pushing code out the door.

My ultimate goal in life is to… live with no regrets and at the end feel that I got everything I was capable of getting out of life.

If my life had a soundtrack, these songs would be included… Jose Gonzales – Far Away, Deorro – Rise and Shine, Dillon Francis – Say Less

My favorite website is… 😉

If I could learn to do anything in the world, I’d learn to… fly planes.

If I won the lottery, the first thing I would do is… buy my Uncle a 69 Chevelle SS.

My pet peeve or something I really dislike is… people who wave me through stop signs when they clearly have the right of way.

If I could live inside one movie for the rest of my life, it would be… probably any of the James Bond movies (assuming I got to take the role).

When I’m not at work you can find me… in the mountains, in a bar/club, or at the gym.

If you wanted to buy me a drink, make it a… gin and soda or whisky neat.

My favorite vacation destination is… Hawaii

My mantra or personal philosophy is… Fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.
